Ahimsa Porter Sumchai MD, PD (Stanford Postdoctoral Fellow)
Founder, medical director and principal investigator of the Hunters Point Community Biomonitoring Program, Dr. Ahimsa Porter Sumchai’s leadership in the environmental health and justice movement began on the morning of February 19, 1992 after signing the death certificate of her father — George Donald Porter — a career longshore walking boss and shipping clerk who died prematurely from pulmonary asbestosis.
“The modern Environmental Justice Movement would not be what it is today if it were not for the African Americans who helped shape it. African Americans have been fighting for decades, from sparking the modern Environmental Justice Movement, to conducting key research on environmental pollution, to founding countless grassroots organizations, their legacy is undeniable” Eddie Junsay -350.org — The Environmental Justice Movement is Rooted in Black History.

Legal Legacy of Harm to the Hunters Point Community
“On behalf of named plaintiffs and thousands of other victims to be named including residents, deceased family members and unborn children,” renown civil rights attorneys Bonner & Bonner filed a $27 billion lawsuit — on May 1, 2018 — for damages arising from “generational threats of cancer and other incurable illnesses attributed to the documented fraud perpetrated by US Navy contractor Tetra Tech in assuring Hunters Point residents and the City of San Francisco that the radiation contaminated land at the Hunters Point shipyard had been cleaned.”

It’s a toxic legacy that left residents like Harrison, the mother of Bayview-Hunters Point’s environmental justice movement, to wonder if it might be connected to neighbors’ nosebleeds, breathing problems and tumors.
The Navy and public health officials long denied any links, and Harrison’s challenges ended abruptly two years ago, when she died of lung…

Race is an imaginary construct that has been delegitimized by modern science yet continues to fuel wanton fear, violence and disharmony among members of the human family. Critical Race Theory recognizes that racism is not a bygone relic of the past, according to the American Bar Association.

San Francisco is a very small city and a very important town! In general a community with more than 2,500 residents is considered a city while a town is defined as a populated area with fixed boundaries and a local government.
San Francisco is most colorfully described as an enormous health and wellness cult with a population of 769,000 immunization eligible residents over the age of 16. A village that embraces a successful community health improvement collaborative called the San Francisco Health Improvement Partnership or SFHIP. …
