Not surprising at all given the extreme social and physical isolation the pandemic imposed upon global populations! Several key factors likely contribute to a tripling in depression incidence in addition to the known impacts of being in solitary isolation studied in prisoners and victims of abuse.

Research has demonstrated and verified the role nature walks played in mitigating symptoms of suicidal depression. Simply walking in nature and green space, gardening and earthing are enormously therapeutic.

Sleep disturbances go hand in hand with mood disorders and a major adverse impact of government shutdowns was the creation of large populations of sleep deprived and sleep disordered citizens.

Finally, one of the most enduring impacts is chronic fear and uncertainty, grief, loss and PTSD secondary to loss of loved ones, loss of financial security, loss of self esteem and loss of a secure future.
